2. Take ownership of your people

When you as a manager care about those you lead, it has an effect on your performance. When you begin to see past their job and care for them as individuals, you will find a growing sense of responsibility you feel for them. I remember last year Just For Fun Slot to get back to base camp after climbing Pequenyo Alpamayo in Bolivia. The fog rolled in and we could not see more than 50 feet ahead of us. This is not good when you are traveling on a glacier with deep crevasses. Fortunately for us, we had a guide who travels this route many times a year. He knew where to go and, more importantly, where not to go. Having a guide is essential, especially when you are in challenging terrain. In 2009, think about hiring a coach, either for your personal life, or for leadership. You don't have to spend a lot, but do your homework at the same time. Get involved in the business of helping people. When we look outside of ourselves it helps us gain perspective, keeps us grateful, and inspires us to be more.
