Do Not Conform to the Norm

Most people conform.

I'm referring to what high school students call peer pressure and professionals refer to as "group think."

I cannot express more disgust of this. If you are happy with your progress and what you are doing, chances are you aren't taking enough chances to challenge the status quo and finding new cool ways of living your life. If no one is telling you that "you're nuts!" then there must be something wrong with your life.

Chances are you are settling too much and should be aiming higher.

I remember playing Fedex Houston computer game with my brother a few years back. He was really good at it, and somehow beat the living crap out of me after about 1 hour into the game. I never understood how, until one time I asked him. He said, "Well, I never have enough 06 Stone Suit Volcom (food from the game, required for upgrades)". This meant that he was constantly working on a new development in his city that required food to upgrade to. Having low food is considered unwise. If you have no food all your peasants die.

I find the computer game example applies to real life too. The tendency here is to collect money and stock pile it by doing safe activities such as:

Working a stable 9-5 job that pays a constant cash flow.

Getting an education in a profession.

What happened to trying something crazy? Let me re-state the examples above in a context that takes more chances with greater opportunity for growth:

Having other people work for you (create your own job security).
Getting an education in Gsm Phone Satellite domain you want. Something that complements your strengths.

In which category do you see the most potential for growth? Don't conform to the norm. Instead take chances that make you fall flat on your face...so you can learn, get experience and grow.
